Church Bombing!

The accursed thing in the church (Christians Look Inward)

- But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: AND THE ANGER OF THE LORD WAS KINDLED AGAINST THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL” History always repeats itself. The Word of God has reasons and explanations behind church bombings and places of worship in Nigeria. Apart from the reason that it is the last days, other theologically accurate reasons are spatially distributed in the scripture of truth. Any serious Bible student knows that God has never and will never let anyone do His own harm (Ps. 20:6; 28:8). He suffers nobody to do His anointed any harm and He reacts spontaneously and adequately to any harm done to His people (genuine children of God). But what is happening to Christians in Nigeria? Are we worthy of divine mercies and protection? Does the Lord actually have anointed men and women in whom He is jealous? Do we actually and truly call on Him in our churches and places of worship? Do we have righteous men for which God will stick His neck to protect? Do we have prophets that love righteousness and indeed hate iniquity? These and several other questions are begging for answers. Brethren, there is an accurse thing in our camp and we have Achan the son of Carmi in the church that the Lord is asking us to seek out!

Before we go ahead to curse our enemies for the senseless killings and bombings of churches and places of worship, let us look at how senseless the church has been in these areas: corruption, love of money, false preaching, division, sin, slander, factions, fragmentation, dismembering, accusations, prayerlessness, unfaithfulness, insincerity, stealing, cheating, gluttony, idleness, unforgiveness, non-challant to the plight of the world, worldliness and carnality, riotous living, bribery, works of the flesh, wastage, ostentation, complacency, partying, love of rewards, neglect of missions and evangelism, lips service, segregation, and so on and on. We need to look inward!

Israel has remained our mirror and road map when dealing or trying to understand the dealings of God with His people. Whenever the enemies prevail over Israel, you sure can trace the cause to Israel. In Joshua chapter seven, we have an account of what happened to Israel when THE “ACCURSED THING” WAS ALLOWED IN THEIR CAMP AND THAT IS WHAT IS EXACTLY HAPPENING TO THE NIGERIAN CHURCH. Unless and until we stop our hypocrisy and repent, seeking God in truth and Spirit, I am sorry, the enemy will continue to have a field day over the church. Let us not listen to fake prophecies and prophets, who say, “It is well, it is well”, or “Peace, peace.” Such will not help us. As long as the church in Nigeria continue to abandon the purpose of God and is busy pursuing shadows and mundane things, going after money and corrupt practices with extreme cases of deception and lack of truth and transparency in our pews and pulpits, the enemy will continue to persecute us until we return to the Lord. It is normal for the Lord to allow the heathen to chasten His church and people when they err. Let us look inwards and stop these pretentious attitudes. We have to deal with ourselves. Let us repent and stop prostituting with the world system and compromising our standards because we want to make money. We must stop trading with the word of God. Nigeria will not experience peace as long as the church continues to walk and grope in darkness.

Since when have we abandoned evangelism and outreaches. All we are looking for now is money and prosperity. We are now fighting, dismembering, cheating and attacking each other. We now have more crimes in the church than outside the church. We don't have the moral justification to represent Christ to the world. It seems God is even afraid of giving Christians sensitive political positions in Nigeria. We might be sell out. Our brethren that are parading themselves as politicians, what have they done in the name of Christ, have they represented Jesus well enough or they also looting? What of the ministers of God? What is their preoccupation in the ministry today? Do we not see that God is angry with us? Brethren, cease from deception. Something is seriously wrong with our Christianity that it seems God cannot defend even the church and our buildings. We are killed like chickens today. This is not ordinary. Something is wrong somewhere. We have left the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We need to take a retrospect and look back. The God that answers by fire is not with us.

Some are even faking the call of God to defraud the simple minded. We lack sincere workers and Christians for whom God will fight on out behalf. We need to ask God to forgive us and show us mercies. Going to attack the adversaries and people bombing our churches should be our plan for now. Instead, we need to return to the Lord (Jer. 17:13). We need to do what Joshua did.

“…And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east side of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai… So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai. And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water…Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you…And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor. ( Jos. 7:1-2, 4-5, 11-12, KJV).

Joshua asked God the cause of their predicament and the Lord said it was caused by Achan the son of Carmi. Joshua discovered that the immediate answer to what was happening does not lie in trying to fight back. Trying to fight back or take reprisal attacks on your enemies when God Himself is against you will worsen the case. Joshua the servant of God went to God to find out what to do. God said, “Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant”, It was first, “Israel has sinned” before Achan the son of Carmi was even mentioned. God generalized the sin of one man. There are several sins in the church today, irrespective of who is doing it, God is saying “Israel hath sinned” and everyone in the camp must pay for it. Because we do not tell ourselves the truth in the church today, we are all forced to face the wrath of God together when it comes. Everyone is afraid to speak the truth of the Word of God to his neighbor. We have become liars and pleasers of men. The pulpit is not even doing better and the love of rewards like Balaam is what has reoccupied the heart of men and preachers alike. It is a terrible situation for which Satan is celebrating our plights. Serious heart searching messages that will make Christians show the life of Christ in their offices are lacking and since we have forsaken God, He has also left us to suffer the wrath of the wicked. It is time to cry out for mercies upon the church of Christ in Nigeria and not just apportioning blames on those bombing our churches. All we need now is divine mercies and help from God. We need to LOOK INWARDS, THERE IS AN ACCURSED THING IN THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA and it is only God that will help us.

“…for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed” Many have been stealing from God in our churches and our sins are finding us out. See that, “Therefore the children of Israel could not STAND BEFORE THEIR ENEMIES…”, it is pathetic!
